DIRECT MICRO EXPULSION
In the early 1990s, faced with the needs of remote island communities in the South Pacific, Dr Dan Etherington pioneered the production of extra virgin coconut oil: he invented the Direct Micro Expelling (DME®) process, and founded Kokonut Pacific to support coconut oil producers and bring this premium oil to market. DME® is a proprietary coconut oil extraction process that takes less than an hour to transform selected ripe coconuts into delicious, hand-pressed extra virgin coconut oil. THE DME® SOLUTION
Direct Micro Expelling uses a totally different approach to coconut compared to that of the copra industry. With DME®, we are bringing the (small-scale) processing to the nuts rather than bringing them (in degraded form) to a (large-scale) processing plant in another country. The result is that DME® produces a much higher quality virgin coconut oil (VCO) made from coconut oil (CNO).
“Direct Micro Expelling” is very descriptive of the technology. This is:
Direct - fast (oil produced within one hour of opening the nut) and efficient (its oil extraction efficiency or OEE is 85% of the available oil).
Micro - small scale (family farm size).
Expulsion - extraction of virgin oil and flour
The DME® process focuses on a small, manageable daily throughput of up to 1000 nuts. This is a “dry process” using its shells as fuel. Whereas the exact same resource transformed into copra takes a week to manufacture and package, then several weeks to be shipped and processed in large oil mills overseas.

The main problem with coconut oil for the skin is making sure that you are using the right type of coconut oil because most of the coconut oil on the market is from Low quality coconut oil with little benefit to the skin or the human body in general. Why is organic coconut oil generally the best type of oil to use on your skin?
The answer is free radicals.
Most commercial creams and lotions are primarily water. Their hydration is quickly absorbed by dry, wrinkled skin. When water enters the skin, it expands the tissue, like filling a balloon with water, so that wrinkles fade away and the skin is smoother. But this is only temporary. As soon as the water evaporates or is carried away by the bloodstream, dry, wrinkled skin returns.
Want to know how to look younger? As we age, connective tissue fibers are continuously subjected to free radical attack, which breaks them down. As a result, connective tissues harden and lose both elasticity and strength. The skin loses its ability to hold itself together and begins to sag and wrinkle. Once young, soft and smooth, the skin becomes dry and leathery. Once a radical reaction is triggered, it can cause a chain reaction that produces more free radicals, which ends up damaging thousands of molecules. The only way our bodies have to fight them is with antioxidants. When a free radical comes into contact with an antioxidant, the chain reaction is stopped. For this reason, it is good to have lots of anti oxidants in our cells and tissues to protect us.

Conventional body care products which are made with refined vegetable oils which have all the antioxidants stripped away are very prone to the generation of free radicals inside and outside the body. This is also the reason why you need to be careful about the type of oils you use on your skin and in your lip lotions, creams and balms. If you use a lotion or cream with a refined oil, you actually age your skin faster. The lotion, while it may provide a temporary improvement, will actually accelerate the aging of the skin and even promote skin cancer thanks to the free radicals that are easily formed from refined vegetable oil.
